Setup your cutter with SignCut-X2
Please note, this will only cover how to setup your cutter with SignCut-X2, not
any particularity regarding your machine, or how to install your kind of USB to RS232
adapter, please refer to you cutter-manual, or dealer.
However as a service to our customers we have a website with a list of all current
supported cutters where we continously adds links to help-documents to setup those
particular machines, please click here to see if your machine is added, and if it's not
then contact us and we will try to add it as soon as possible.
Please note that all drivers in that list has been personally tested and verified
to be working by us.
If you appreciate this free service, please feel free to let us know.
To setup your cutter there is a few things you must check:
- What interface do you use between the machine and the computer. if unsure, check again
so you are 100% sure that you are using the right cable for the right port.
- If using a USB to RS232 adapter, make sure you use a serial-cable between the
adapter and the cutter. This is very important because if not, you can destroy
the interface permanently.
- If using a Parallel-cable, make sure you don't use a Windows Printerdriver for
the same port, or it will block the communication. However if you know what you are
doing, you can use a windows-printerdriver, but then you must choose that driver in the
Device-field in SignCut-X2 instead of LPT1.
- Some cutters today uses a USB to RS232 chip built-in the machine, to use that USB
port you must install a driver for it, once the driver is installed, you will find that
virtual COM-port inside SignCut-X2.
For Mac OS X users, we do recommend to purchase a Keyspan adapter
instead and use the serial cable, as most built-in chip drivers have issues on Mac OS X,
or may take alot of time and frustration to get working properly.
- Make sure you don't have any other software that can poll the ports or bind them,
such as mobile-phone synchronisation sofware, or job-managers or production managers
that can conflict. In 99% of all support-cases reported to us to get the communication
to work, it has been something in the clients environment, so please check all possibilities
before contacting us for support, if available try on another computer, also test all the
available interfaces (Serial/USB/Parallel/TCP-IP).
Once the above list is checked, you are ready to setup your machine with SignCut-X2. To do
that, start SignCut-X2 and click on the Cutter-button in the panel.
The first thing to do is to choose the manufacturer from the manufacturer list. Click
in the list to be able to find your manufacturer.

Once the manufacturer is found, you should locate your model in the cutter-list.
If you can't find your particular model-number, then try a driver with a name similar
to it, as they are usually the same driver except for the default vinylwidth, then you
can email us, so we can add your model for the next revision.
Now you need to set the device to use. If you followed the checklist above, then you
should now know exactly what option to choose here. Choose that option. Usually you
shouldn't need to change anything else as the default-values should match your machine.
However sometimes you need to change the Blade-Offset to match your current blade, if the
machine doesn't have built-in blade-offset compensation.
Also worth to notice is the Rotation-option. If your cutter starts with the cutting-head
on the right-side of the cutter when starting it, then you should use Rotate: "90 deg", if it
starts on the Left-side then it should be set to Rotate: "0 deg"
A good recommendation is to Not click on the "Calibrate Cutter" option before you
established a working communication. Once you can cut, and notice there is a size-difference
when you cut, then you can use this option. Most cutters don't need this calibration. Only
use it if you really notice size differences.
If you still have problems getting the communication to work, please se our website and the
FAQ, you may also login to the Customer Login area for more help.
